The serpent in Cairngryffe Kirkyard
The serpent in Cairngryffe Kirkyard
Cairngryffe Kirkyard holds another old symbolic stone that uses the same verse and an extract from the 1727 carving where the serpent is holding an apple from the Tree of Life. Damage to this stone has been repaired. See NS9238 : The Tree of Life in Cairngryffe Kirkyard for the complete carving. The stone emphasises the 18th century Protestant message of hellfire and damnation.
