Tree on the Shire Ditch
Tree on the Shire Ditch
A linear ditch and embankment along the top of the Malvern Hills with Worcestershire to the east and Herefordshire to the west.
Long thought to have been the result of a dispute between two grumpy old men, Earl Gilbert de Clare and Bishop Cantilupe of Hereford, it was rebuilt on their behalf in 1287, but there is now evidence that it may originally be as old as the Bronze Age.
