Stone circles
Stone circles
The site at Beaghmore consists of seven circles and related alignments and cairns. There are three pairs of circles, with a cairn between each pair, and the alignments radiate from the cairns. They were built in the Bronze Age, between 3500 and 1800 years ago. Naturally it is impossible to be certain what their purpose was, but some of the alignments point towards the midsummer sunrise and one towards moonrise at the solstice. The cairns contained remains of cremated human bones.
