Autumn in Himley Plantation near Wombourne
Looking north-north-east towards Bridgnorth Road and Wombourne. This is one of the main tracks through the plantation. The very pleasant site south-west of Wolverhampton is managed by the Woodland Trust. There were plenty of dog walkers active on this beautiful late autumn afternoon on the eve of Storm Arwen's arrival. I bet those remaining attached golden leaves were on the ground by Saturday!
Himley Plantation dates from the 18th Century and was once part of the Estate of the Earl of Dudley. The main body of the site lies to the south of a dismantled railway line and is mature mixed high-forest woodland largely comprising of oak and sycamore.
