From here, maintenance craft could service the 21 locks down towards Aldersley Junction, as well as the Wyrley and Essington Canal and the Birmingham Canal towards Bilston. Now all boat crews can obtain water and use other facilities.

This basin is a remnant of the original canal line, filled in to build the Wolverhampton (High Level) railway station 1849-1850.
