An Example of the Street-Naming Mystery
An Example of the Street-Naming Mystery
I have never got round to finding out why this practice exists. When (usually, but not always, fairly unaffordable) new houses are being built grand entrance walls are erected, with a name carved in stone that bears no resemblance to the street name that is finally given.
This entrance just leads into one (very nice) street, and therefore makes no sense at all. It could be argued that other similar fancy entrances lead to a number of streets. Nevertheless, the name given in those cases rarely signifies an area of housing, and usually just sounds like another street name. For instance, a current partly-built housing area on the outskirts of nearby West Calder goes by the name of 'Monarchs Way', despite leading to numerous streets that all start with 'Mossend' with not a king or queen in sight.
