Leasers Barn and the Wilberforce Memorial
Leasers Barn and the Wilberforce Memorial
Barn and memorial at Abinger Roughs, on land owned by the National Trust. Leasers Barn is thought to date from the 16th Century. For a closer view see TQ1148 : Leasers Barn. The memorial is to Samuel Wiberforce, Bishop of Winchester and son of William Wilberforce, the anti-slavery campaigner, who died in a riding accident here in 1873. For a close up see TQ1148 : Wilberforce Memorial. In the background is part of Hackhurst Downs on the North Downs.
