"In Glasgow yesterday, they tell me, was seen an omnibus bearing on its side the legend:—" Lochranza, Pirnmill and Blackwaterfoot".
Some say that it was just an ordinary 'bus from Arran on its way home after being refurbished for the summer season; but it is much more likely, of course, to have been a mirage or "sending," an illusion born out of happy memory and strong desire.
So to Anthony and the dreamers in Thebaid came delectable visions and bright figments of enchantment.
Ho Hum!
I HAVE no doubt that many a wan wen-dweller halted on the pavement and stared at the strange visitant with bulging eyes, and felt for a moment the brisk sea air about them, and smelt the dulse below Dougarie, and saw the low dogroses along the Machrie Water.
Lochranza, Pirnmill and Blackwaterfoot ... Heigh-ho! And the holidays so far away that they might as well be Hy-brasail, and Tir-nan-Og and Breceliaunde for all one can do about it."
