Symbolic gravestones at Morham Parish Churchyard
Symbolic gravestones at Morham Parish Churchyard
This is a wonderful line up of 18th century symbolic gravestones. A winged soul, an emblem of immortality representing the deceased’s journey to heaven, is normally at the head of this type of stone, but here they are placed below a Death’s Head, which is a symbol of mortality. Other symbols of mortality are femur bones and an hourglass. The stone second from the right has an additional small winged soul beside the skull.
