Watts Memorial Chapel & Cemetery

The Watts Memorial Chapel was built by Mary Seton Watts (née Mary Fraser Tytler) (1849–1938) LinkExternal link and the villagers of Compton between 1896 and 1898 in memory of her late husband, the artist G(eorge) F(rederic) Watts (1817–1904) LinkExternal link
It is built of red brick and terracotta in the form of the head of a Celtic Cross. There is remarkable decoration both inside and around the outside of the chapel. The cemetery which surrounds it contains some notable monuments.
The interior in a highly elaborate Art Nouveau style was completed in 1901.
