Crossrail Connaught Tunnel Head House
Crossrail Connaught Tunnel Head House
By the former Royal Albert Dock. This building was over the pumping shaft for the North Woolwich Line that would now appear to be part of Crossrail. The tunnel was built in 1878 and closed to traffic in December 2006. Crossrail adopted it for its branch to Abbey Wood and has deepened, strengthened and widened the 550 metre long structure. This involved exposing it from above between coffer dams in the dock.
