The London Post Office Railway is an underground narrow gauge (610mm - 2ft) railway that operated between 1927 and 2003. The line ran for 10.5km (6.5 miles) from Paddington to Whitechapel, linking several sorting offices. Maintenance workshops and facilities were provided at Mount Pleasant.
The driverless trains were electrically powered, supplied at 440Vdc via a central third rail.
The Mail Rail museum opened in 2017 at Mount Pleasant, adjacent to the Postal Museum. Visitors can take a short tour of the station and tunnels on a new battery-powered train built by Severn Lamb. Exhibits are displayed in the former workshops.
