Craven Arms war memorial in Stokesay churchyard
Unusually, this memorial names both those who died in service, and those who returned. The text reads: 'To perpetuate the glorious memory of the men of the parish of Stokesay who fell in the Great War 1914-1918 and whose names are inscribed below [24 names] 1939-1945 [8 names]' 'And in grateful recognition of those of this parish who also fought for King and country, happily returned and whose names are inscribed below [98 names]'.
The late E.S.Wood in his 'Historic Britain (1998) informed us '"The 'castle' has two towers (of 1115 and 1291) flanking a great hall of 1284. The timbered upper part of the gatehouse dates from 1570".
