Planning was granted for the house, then 35 Westgate, in May 1883 for Rev Edward Tucker Leeke, builder George Allis (the mission room & WC, now replaced with offices, next door was built by Allis for Leake, on his land, a few months later). Leeke, Chancellor of the Cathedral, lived in The Chancery, Minster Yard and in at least 1894-1901 the house was being used as Westgate Club and Institute with officers' rooms for the Church Lads Brigade who used the drill hall next door. Westgate was re-numbered sometime from 1901 to 1905.
