Loughcrew Gardens, Co. Meath - late-medieval church (1)
The Loughcrew Estate notice describe this building as a tower house which is probably stretching the imagination somewhat. It is however a church with the addition of a large, three-storey residential tower at the west end, built during turbulent times, when even churches were not safe from attack. The church is traditionally associated with Christopher Plunkett, who built it c.1520, which was added to by John Plunkett, the father of the Saint and Martyr St Oliver Plunkett who was born here in 1629.
