Everest Hall (Llanfair Waterdine)
Everest Hall (Llanfair Waterdine)
Here is the village hall at Llanfair Waterdine, known as Everest Hall. The building got its name from John Hunt (1910-98), the leader of the successful British Expedition to Mount Everest in 1953. Hunt was born in Simla, British India, on 22nd June 1910, and he lived at Llanfair Waterdine during his expedition to Mount Everest in 1953. He was created a Life Peer in the Queen's Birthday Honours of 1966, and he became Baron Hunt, of Llanfair Waterdine, the same year.
The building was waving the United Kingdom "Union Jack" flag when I visited, done to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II.
