Opened in 1876 to supply Bolton with drinking water: created by the damming of Bradshaw Brook which now emerges in the outflow at Edgworth, continues onwards past Turton Bottoms, enters the northern end of Jumbles Reservoir, and again outflows southwards to Bromley Cross.
