Inside McArthur Glen, the old Swindon Railway Works (h)
This building is one of an important group of 19th Century industrial buildings, listed
by the Government for their important architectural and historic interest
as part of the Great Western Railway engineering works, designed by
Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Daniel Gooch. The works were officially opened
in 1843 and developed in phases.
The Government has proposed that the important historic features on the
Bristol – London railway, such as these engineering works, should
Be designated as a World Heritage Site
