Strictly this is the "Memorial of the Great Exhibition of 1851". The area to the south of the Albert Hall was originally occupied by the Royal Horticultural Society's gardens, and the monument was erected there. In 1882, the gardens were redeveloped for the museums and colleges of Albertopolis, and the monument was relocated 56 m north, to this location.
