Pumping Station, Beecraigs
Unusually, for such a large enclosure, there was no signage at all here to indicate its function. There was also a bit of a pong coming from it I thought. However, considering that it is situated at pretty much the highest point of West Lothian, sewage pumping could quickly be ruled out. The faint bad smell, therefore, must be a slight worry, and I have no idea why there would be a fire extinguisher within the compound either! Added to this, the whooshing of water was occasionally punctuated with the odd loud clatter and bang of what must obviously be pumping machinery on its last legs, so I reckon it won't be too long until this noisy water pumping station gets a refit.
The country park visitor centre, along with a nearby campsite's shower/toilet block and a few cottages and farms, are situated further up the hill, but there are not really that many properties higher up from here. So maybe the water getting pumped up the way also reaches a few properties on its way down after reaching its highest point.
I am glad that my water supply is unconnected with here - particularly as the other plastic tank (the only one of the two in the enclosure which is marked on big-scale maps, to the left of camera) has holes in it - and that fire extinguisher still leaves me scratching my head!
