Church and Cross at Kirkmadrine
Church and Cross at Kirkmadrine
'The monument consists of the site of the medieval church of Kirkmadrine. Carved stones from the site demonstrate that it was an important ecclesiastical centre, probably a monastery, as early as the 6th century AD. It continued in use as a parish church until around 1618. The site of the church is a prominent mound on which was built the MacTaggarts of Ardwell mausoleum.'
