Old Sentry Post
A couple of hundred yards behind my right shoulder is a Second World War gun emplacement; unfortunately, at the time of my wanderings, the large field the very functional-looking brick and concrete structures are sitting in contained about twenty horses. This must have been the spot where one lone soldier checked that only the right people were getting in to the anti-aircraft battery. I can't imagine what purpose the tiny window served - maybe it was so he could keep an eye on the fields beyond whilst keeping dry and in position.
The shelter is at the side of a good quality track which, to the right, eventually leads to a kennels for retired greyhounds. Since greyhound racing isn't exactly a big thing these days - particularly in Scotland - I wondered if their sign might have been a nod to the past. But right on cue a woman came walking past with three very athletic looking hounds in tow.
The hut must be just below the threshold to be mapworthy as it doesn't appear on the most detailed maps, old or new.
