The site at Carrigaline consists of this fragmentary tower on a rock above the Owenboy estuary (aka Owenbue), and a C16 house. The tower may have been built by a de Cogan who married a Prendergast heiress, although in 1439 the castle was handed over to the FitzGeralds. In 1568 it was besieged and captured by Lord Deputy Sidney from James Fitzmaurice FitzGerald and it once again changed hands, ending up with the St Ledgers.
