Disused railway bridge
Disused railway bridge
This bridge, No. SJT2 124 is situated on the road to Slapton from Abthorpe. It belonged to the Stratford & Midland Junction Railway which was always a single-track line. Passenger services ended in 1951, and the route was closed in 1965 and dismantled. The fact that the bridge still exists means that Network Rail are still responsible for its upkeep over fifty years after closure, hence the stencilled 'SJT2 124' notice on the bridge parapet.
