The Rock and Spindle
The Rock and Spindle
This oddly shaped 'stack' stands on the shore at the foot of Kinkell Braes south of St Andrews. It is made of basalt which is a volcanic rock. The central spindle appears to have radiating spokes. These are formed in columnar-jointed basalt.
