U S forces memorial, Belfast
This memorial, in the grounds of the City Hall, commemorates the arrival of the first US forces in Europe in WWII. They arrived, by sea, at Belfast harbour. The material has not weathered too well.
Belfast City Hall :: J3373

Belfast City Hall was built in 1896/1906, by H&J Martin LinkExternal link to a design by Brumwell Thomas. It replaced the White Linen Hall (1785-1896) LinkExternal link (“white” refers to the colour of the linen rather than the building) on the same site in the middle of Donegall Square. Apart from its architectural merits and being the seat of the City Council it tends to be the place from where directions are given.
