Old Red Sandstone
A series of well-bedded sandstones and conglomerate exposed on the upper shore where they are free of seaweed growth. The proximity of the New (Permian-Triassic) and Old Red (Devonian) Sandstones on Arran is remarkable, and their similarities are obvious, but the younger rocks do not have these high-energy conglomerate members. A curious feature of this outcrop is the extreme angle of dip, which means that we are viewing the beds end-on.
