Forge Field
The name of the field according to Mayfield's 1844 tithe map that can be found to the north of the River Rother. named after the former Moat Mill Forge which operated nearby from 1544-1616. There is currently little evidence as to its exact whereabouts. Though to the south across the flood plain, directly opposite, is another field, numbered 3402 in Mayfield's apportionment, called Forge and Tollfields, see
