A vertical garden
Moss growing on a tree trunk. Today was supposed to be wet, but I got out early enough to miss the early rain. It got worse as the day went on. But it has been wet enough this winter already to stimulate the moss on trees. It is said that only trees under stress fall victim to moss, lichen, and fungii, and this Silver Birch is a poor specimen, deprived of light in the leafy seasons by the much larger canopy above. Under the moss the bark has split or been shed, perhaps because of the attention of the local deer.
Trees and their trunks

There are many guides to tree identity on the web. But few concentrate upon the bark, the trunks, rather than leaves and blossom, and fruits. So this collection will do what it can to improve representation of the lower structures.
