SO6521 : Modern Boundary Stone, Lea Bailey Hill

taken 1 year ago, near to Lea, County of Herefordshire, England

Modern Boundary Stone, Lea Bailey Hill
Modern Boundary Stone, Lea Bailey Hill
Marking the boundary of the Royal Forest of Dean, which was formerly totally in Gloucestershire, but now this outlier is in Herefordshire. Despite the inscription this is too pristine to be original. The font is correct for the date. Given the gabion behind, it clearly has been re-sited recently, indeed maps of 1901/3 indicate there were 2 stones, one on the other side of the road and one further on the property.

Inscription: D. F / 1832 / Nᴼ. 172
