SE1826 : Spen Valley Greenway approaching the M62
taken 1 year ago, near to Scholes, Kirklees, England
This cycle and walking route runs for 13km from Low Moor in Bradford to Ravensthorpe near Dewsbury. It passes through or near the towns of Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike.
It uses the route of the former Cleckheaton branch railway, open from 1848 to 1981, latterly only for freight. It re-opened as a Sustrans leisure route in 2000. For most of its length it forms part of National Cycle Network route 66 (Trans-Pennine Trail).
The M62 is the west to east trans-Pennine motorway. It is 107 miles long running from Liverpool to Hull. It was built between 1971 and 1976. At Windy Hill it is 372m above sea level, making it the highest point on any British motorway.
