Marble Wasp Gall
Marble Wasp Gall
Marble wasp gall (caused by the Cynipini wasp species Andricus kollari) formed in place of a bud on an oak tree twig. On Limes Land, Tenterden, Kent.
A female gall-causer wasp (ie a wasp of family Cynipidae) lays her egg in the tissue of the host plant, inducing the plant to form the gall in which the egg hatches to a larva. The larva feeds on the tissue of the gall while developing into a wasp able to emerge and fly from the gall. Ref:P9120002ug.
Cecidology - the study of Galls

Cecidology is the name for the study of the world of galls.
A gall or a cecidium (plural: cecidia) is an abnormal growth in a plant caused by specific gall-causing insects, mites, or fungi.
Examples include the Oak Apple, that looks like a small round fruit but is actually a plant deformity caused by a wasp.
