Blackpool tram no. 722 in North Albert Street, passing Pharos Street, Fleetwood, Lancs
This "Balloon class" tram was built by English Electric at their Preston works and delivered to Blackpool in February 1935. At the time it was numbered 259, later becoming 722. In 2001 it had a bad derailment after hitting a sand drift. Then in October 2007 it was hit from behind by 711 another Balloon tram. No. 722 sustained considerable damage. It was then stored and stripped of spare parts to keep the other Balloon trams going. Eventually in October 2009 it was scrapped at Rigby Road depot.
In this view the tram is in advertising livery for Pontin's. It is passing the junction with Pharos Street and heading for the Fleetwood terminus at Fleetwood Ferry Port. On the left a tram track is emerging from Pharos Street and entering North Albert Street as part of the return route to Blackpool.
