Opened in 1840, a somewhat unusual arrangement, as navigation by this light is done in conjunction with the nearby and much shorter beach light. When the two lights are visibly aligned, a vessel can safely navigate the treacherous sandbanks of the Wyre estuary.
This should be captioned The North Euston Hotel. Fleetwood was a planned town laid out by the architect Dedcimus Burton for Sir Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood. There was to be a radial pattern of streets centred on a high sand dune 'The Mount'. For a time the town was the northern railhead on the London-Glasgow route and a steamship carried passengers on to Scotland. The North Euston Hotel was part of the great plan to develop the port and resort facilities.
