Baron Grimthorpe, St Albans Cathedral
Baron Grimthorpe, St Albans Cathedral
Edmund Beckett, 1st Baron Grimthorpe (1817-1906) was noted for the large sums of money he dedicated to the reconstruction of the Cathedral's west front after 1879 making it the only such front to be entirely Victorian. He was also responsible for the installation of spectacular windows at either end of the two transepts. This apart, he seems to have gained notoriety for seeking disharmony with most of those he encountered.
