The Victoria Hall, Victoria Street, Bourton-on-the-Water
Victoria Street was previously called Threadneedle Street. The Village Hall was built to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria and carries a datestone for 1897. Built by subscription, local resident George Frederick Moore was the biggest contributor to the cost. (He also built New Bridge in 1911.) It was intended to provide a reading room and space for meetings and entertainments. Moore gave the trustees a cottage in 1924, the sale of which provided an endowment fund of over £1,000 for the hall. By the fifties the hall was being used as a working men's club and in 1962 it also became home of the Y.M.C.A. It boasts two plaques: one commemorating Victoria’s Jubilee, and a second honouring Queen Elizabeth II’s Jubilee that were erected in 2012. Today (2023) Victoria Hall is available to hire for a variety of functions ranging from concerts, community events, exhibitions, fetes and classes to meetings, private parties and other social events.
