Hammer Pond Field
Hammer Pond Field
The name of the field according to Maresfield's 1840 tithe map that was once a pond that powered Langley Furnace which was located in what is now Forge Wood beyond the southern end of the field. A pond bay also survives but is on private land. The pond was eight acres in size and straddled the course of the current Batts Bridge Stream which runs down the western side of the field. See also TQ4524 : Hammer Pond Field which is located on the western side of the stream.
