taken 11 months ago, near to Bridgnorth, Shropshire, England
Bridgnorth Signal Box, Severn Valley Railway
When the Preservation Society gained control of the station in 1965 the signal box's wooden superstructure and signalling equipment had been removed by demolition contractors. During 1968 suitable replacement superstructure was obtained from Pensnett on the old GWR Wombourn branch; however the Pensnett box was shorter than the box it was to replace, requiring the north end of the brickwork base at Bridgnorth to be reduced in length by 9 feet. Comparison with Ben Brookbank's photo of 1962
SO7192 : Bridgnorth Station shows that previously there were 3 windows in the ground floor locking-room. A suitable lever frame was obtained from Windmill End Junction signal box.
By the autumn of 1969 the rebuilt signal box and its signalling equipment was complete in time for the re-opening of the line to Hampton Loade on 23rd May 1970.
