NT2573 : Buffer zone at Waverley railway station

taken 11 months ago, near to Edinburgh, Scotland

Buffer zone at Waverley railway station
Buffer zone at Waverley railway station
The buffers (beyond the fence) are designed to slide if hit at speed, clamps on the rails providing additional resistance to increase the stopping power. The rails continue under the concourse, which appears to have a removeable floor (in the foreground) to provide maintenance access. See also NT2573 : Buffer zone at Waverley station.
