Twelve racing yachts sit moored at Liverpool's Albert Dock in advance of the 2017-18 Clipper Round the World Race, looking northwestwards towards the western side of the dock.

This photograph was taken on a bright and breezy afternoon in mid-August. The colourful boats were a popular attraction to the visitors walking the docks and people were lining the length of the pavilion to take a look. The Sanya Serenity Coast yacht (fifth from left with the red bow) was the eventual winner of the race, which began from Liverpool on 20th August 2017.

Liverpool's waterfront contains a mixture of architecture and buildings spanning some 160 years can be seen in this image, from the restored mid-19th century dock buildings in the foreground and the early 20th century Royal Liver Building (far right) to the early 21st century Museum of Liverpool and Alexandra Tower (centre right).
