Twists and Turns
The branches on this oak are twisted into a variety of forms quite unlike the popular idea of spreading tree limbs. Oaks do this, they are highly phototropic. This tendency dominates their form far more than any preferential growth pattern. in close plantation they form a complete canopy, intercepting every sunbeam they can find and shading the forest floor into sterility. Free standing they form impressive wide-spreading domes. Both are the outcome of the same stimulus.
