Parker House, Leek
Parker House, Leek
These old cottages on Church Street overlooking the Market Place in Leek date from the early 17th century and have two claims to fame identified by the blue plaques erected by the Leek and District Civic Society. The left hand plaque tells us that this was the birthplace of Thomas Parker 1667-1732 1st Earl of Macclesfield Lord Chancellor of England 1715-1725. The one on the right says that Bonnie Prince Charlie rested here on the 3rd and 7th December 1745 on his advance and retreat having failed to claim the British Crown. The building is grade II listed.
