Small garden alongside St Laurence's Churchyard in the centre of Ludlow. In 2003 a development of 5 executive houses was proposed for this then derelict site. This led to a protracted campaign to save it for the community, and eventually in 2012 it was purchased by Ludlow Civic Society. The site was dedicated by the Prince of Wales on 17 September 2012 in commemoration of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee that year. The southern part of the site was then used to build Hall Garth, a house containing 4 one-bed flats now administered by the Hosyer-Foxe charity as almshouses. This was completed in 2016, after which the garden was created as a public space, opened in 2018.
In the background is the Reader's House. Mainly dating from the 16th century, although with older stonework, this house was originally built by Ludlow bookseller John Dalton. In the 18th century it became the home of the parish Reader, a role in St Laurence's Church, hence the name by which the house is now known. Grade I listed - see
