Sunderland Bridge
Sunderland Bridge
Listed Grade I, probably from the 14th century, spanning the River Wear LinkExternal link . It originally carried the main road to the north (Great North Road, former A1), but was superseded in the 1920s by the downstream Croxdale Bridge (itself superseded by rerouting of the A1 motorway). Sunderland Bridge now carries the Weardale Way.
River Wear

The River Wear flows generally eastward from its source in the Northern Pennines to its mouth at Sunderland. It is 60 miles long. Major settlements on the river are Durham and Sunderland.
