I admit that I have passed this plaque many, many times without stopping to look at it. It records the founding of the 35th Regiment of Foot Link
(Archive Link
) by Arthur Chichester (who owned much of Belfast and surrounding area) in 1701. It is on the former Anderson & McAuley’s store J3374 : Former Anderson & McAuley's, Belfast (detail) in Donegall Place. See also J2664 : Headstone, Lisburn cathedral (1).

Anderson & McAuley, Belfast
At the corner of Donegall Place and Castle Street, built in 1895, to a design by Young and Mackenzie as a department store. It is rich in detail including 29 heads on the upper floors, the identity of which remains unknown. The ground floor remains as shops but the upper floors are now offices.
