The Old Inn at Carnock
If you are researching in this area then a visit to The Old Inn will be very rewarding. The walls, especially the dining room, are covered with fascinating old photographs. One of the photographs shows a line of rambling cottage dwellings that at some point were joined together to produce the Old Inn that you see in the photograph above.
If you are lucky, you may find an older member of staff with lots of local knowledge. She moved to Carnock when she was a child.
Make sure to see the crudely carved date on the lintel of one of the back doors — I think it was mid 1800’s.
If you research and find dates for this pub, be aware that the date may be when the cottages were built or may be when they were converted to a pub. I have not done such research.
Parking your car is best done in one of the side streets.
