Traditional loyalist '11th night' bonfire located in playing fields off Mersey Street in east Belfast. Every year numerous bonfires are lit in N.Ireland on the 11th July (just prior to the '12th' celebrations LinkExternal link ) to commemorate the victory of Prince William of Orange (King William III) over King James II at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690 (see LinkExternal link ).
