Weed-spraying train at Mossley
Weed-spraying train at Mossley
Once each year it was customary for NIR to borrow the CIE weed-spraying train -usually complete with CIE locomotive. This was the one of the highlights of the year for enthusiasts. The train is seen passing the long-closed station at Mossley J3284 : Mossley Station Platform (not the same as today’s Mossley West) bound for Belfast York Road and Larne Harbour.

Some photographs showing the CIE weed-spraying train on Northern Ireland Railways. NIR was too small to have its own dedicated train. The practice was to hire CIE’s – usually in June.
