ST9467 : Spye Arch

taken 48 years ago, near to Bowden Hill, Wiltshire, England

Spye Arch
Spye Arch
Thought to have been the main entrance to Stanley Abbey. When that abbey was demolished the archway was re-erected as an entrance to Sir Edward Bayntun's (1480-1544) mansion - Bromham House. The arch and gatehouse escaped destruction during the Civil War (1645) and now stands at the Bowden Hill entrance to Spye Park.
