Outside the RNLI Kyle of Lochalsh Station is a money collecting vessel in the form of a torpedo, the main plaque upon which reads:

"This unusual collecting vessel was gifted to the R.N.L.I. (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) to symbolise the vital role B.U.T.E.C.(British Underwater Test and Evaluation Centre) played in the birth of the Kyle Lifeboat Station"

and this image shows the coin slot which reads:

"WARNING / IF ESCAPING AIR IS HEARD / WHEN UNSCREWING THIS CAP / STOP / DO NOT UNSCREW FURTHER UNTIL / SOUND OF ESCAPING AIR / CEACES"
